Section 9.5: Troubleshooting HSRP

The Cisco IOS implementation of HSRPsupports the debug command. Enabling debug displays the HSRP state changes and debugging information regarding transmission and receipt of HSRP packets. However, the debug command can cause the system to become unusable due to the high CPU priority assigned to this process. Use the following command in privileged exec mode to enable HSRP debugging:

Router#debug standby

The output of the debug standby command shows the various states of HSRP.

To disable the debugging feature, enter the no debug standby command, the no debug all command, the undebug standby command, or the undebug all command.
